Viewing a file

You can view an archive file on screen by browsing the archive then clicking the 'View Full Screen' link beneath your chosen file. This will open up the file in Google Docs Viewer in a new browser window. Use Google's on-screen controls to navigate, magnify and search the text of your chosen document. Close the browser window to return to the archive.

Note: Files larger than 20MB in size can not be opened in Google Docs Viewer. Files larger than this can be downloaded instead.

Downloading a file

You can download a file from the archive via the 'Download' link below your chosen file. Right-click on the Download link and choose 'Save Target As' or 'Save Link As' depending on which browser you use. You will then be prompted to save the file to your local computer or mobile device.

Searching the archive

Type a word or name you want to search for into the search box and click the 'Search' button (or hit the return key). You will see a list of results with links to pages or files that match your search terms.

File formats

All the files in our archive are in presented in Adobe PDF format. This ensures our documents look and work consistently on a range of platforms and operating systems.

If you wish to view or print PDF files on your computer you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, however it's very common so chances are your machine already has it.

Why do some search results look like gibberish?

That's because the scanning software used to scan our original paper document has had trouble identifying some of the words in the document, in which case the software makes a 'best guess' about what the word should be. This happens a lot with old documents that use unusual typefaces or may even have been handwritten.
